AlejandroMhmmm Honey Bee!!!“Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke.” -Katy Perry on Lady Gaga’s video for ‘Alejandro’
Ok, let’s break it down. First let’s identify the fallacies of logic in this statement:
Argumentum ad populum- So this concept of “blasphemy” is truth and therefore can be inserted into an argument with nonchalant certitude thus adding validity to the statement? I think not. Projecting one’s own Christian based prude perspective, especially in this case is an informal fallacy simply named “argument from ignorance”. To assume “blasphemy” as truth, and that this video is an expression of such as a given, is equivocation, argumentum ad populum, a little petitio principii, with a pinch of the suppressed correlative.
Ignorance is an underlying aspect of this statement as I’ve said before. Forget trying to analyze this video artistically. Forget the fact that an art student could write a 12 page or more paper on the artistic merit of this video, or at least review it objectively from a learned artistic perspective. No, let’s assume it’s complete superfluous smut, and further more, label it as blasphemous and to top it all off, suppose that this was the narrow-minded intent of Lady Gaga, Steven Klein and everyone else that was involved in creating this music video. Well done Katy Perry.
Last but not least. The throw away assumption at the end. Who says fart jokes are cheap? They’re universal and appeal to the unexpected as well as our innate thrill of defying shame, standing as one of the most pure and valid forms of comedy there is. Even if it’s not your thing, objectively fart jokes are very successful.
My final response to Katy Perry’s statement. How would you feel, Katy Perry, if you read this on Twitter: “A hasty, misguided and illogical assertion is a cheap as Katy’s Perry grasp of artistic expression and, I’m assuming, her opinions in general.”
I just cant help myself from blogging this great Video, I think is my second favorite From Momma Monster, My first fav being Bad Romance. I even felt at momments I wanted to cry when I realized some subliminal things in the video, she is so great, I love her. Dont ask me more, dont come and tell me is weird, because for me, not just because I love her music, I get her art, I just do, I have always tought they are like dreams and sometimes stuff that I had seen in the past in my childhood while being days inside my room without going out. I’m so gonna get a “Little monster” Tatto after this♥♥♥
